Dr Emily Jevons

Emily is a lecturer in Nutrition with a particular interest in sports nutrition. Emily’s areas of research include glycogen and lipid metabolism, microscopy methods and the regulation of muscle lipid metabolism. She also has an interest in eating disorders in sport. Emily is a member of BASES, the Physiological Society and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Emily completed a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science (Specialising in Exercise Physiology) at Liverpool John Moores University, completing her undergraduate dissertation entitled “Low carbohydrate availability does not impair the contractile properties or maximal force production of human skeletal muscle” before completing an MPhil/PhD in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition, also at Liverpool John Moores University. There she completed her postgraduate thesis entitled “Quantification of substrate metabolism in endurance athletes using microscopy techniques” under the guidance of Dr Sam Shepherd, Dr Juliette Straus and Prof. James Morton.

Emily’s interest in eating disorders in sport stemmed from working for the national eating disorders charity ‘Beat’ as a helpline advisor whilst completing her MPhil/PhD. Prior to her position as Lecturer in Nutrition, Emily was part of the Universities’ Research Knowledge Transfer department as a Research Support Officer.
