Go Higher Summer School
The Go Higher programme is a free opportunity for learners who don’t have the formal qualifications required for a typical degree or want to develop their confidence to study at university. On this part-time course, you’ll learn how to write academically and study, you’ll learn about university resources and support, and build personal well-being and resilience. Upon completing the course successfully, you’ll have the opportunity to transfer to the Nursing Associate course at University Centre Warrington.

What will I learn?
We will cover academic writing, how to reference, how to search for information and prepare for an assessment, how to maintain wellbeing, and how to balance study with personal commitments. You will be supported by a range of academics who have considerable experience of learning and teaching in higher education. During the summer school, you will build on your personal life skills that you have acquired from previous education, employment and personal experiences.
How will I be taught?
The Go Higher programme has 30 hours of taught material over four weeks. This will be a blend of in-person learning at University Centre Warrington, and online learning via the University’s virtual learning environment.
How will I be assessed?
The assessment is a portfolio. Each week you will undertake a task linked to the learning, and there is a final short written task that will be assessed using the Level 3 assessment criteria (equivalent to A Level).
Entry Requirements
Go Higher Summer School aims to attract individuals who may not have normally considered higher education. Entry requirements are Maths and English GCSE 4/C or equivalent, and a willingness to learn. Candidates will be required to undertake an entrance test. This is the personal statement section of the application, and therefore candidates must complete this to the best of their ability, as it will be assessed.
