After undertaking my undergraduate nursing diploma at Sheffield University I worked in Nottingham University Hospital within cardiothoracic surgery and adult critical care. In 2003 I began training and working as an advanced practitioner within the surgical team which had an elective colorectal speciality and general surgical emergencies. In 2012 I relocated to Chester and worked as part of the colorectal nursing team. My role was split between my advanced practice and a cancer nurse specialist role. I joined the university early in 2016 and my main education roles are within the non-medical prescribing and advanced practice MSc programmes.

I have been involved in teaching on the undergraduate nursing programme and post graduate programmes. Most recently my teaching has been predominantly within the NMP and Advanced Clinical Practice programmes.

I was the programme leader for non-medical prescribing until 2023 and have a big role in the teaching of the programme. The whole NMP team work closely together and we are continually reviewing the programme to ensure it meets the demands of our practice partners.

In 2022 I became the programme lead for the Advanced Clinical Practice programme. We have been working toward achieving programme accreditation with NHSE (formerly HEE).

My research interests include nurse led services / advanced practice. Through my work on the pre-registration skills modules I have developed an interested in combining cognitive learning with physical activity and I hope to do more work in this area in the near future.
