Julie Bailey-Mchale

After graduating with a sociology degree I commenced my mental health nurse training in 1987.  On completion of the programme I commenced working as a staff nurse in an acute inpatient setting and then moved to providing care for patients within a prison setting.  After a while within the prison service I moved back to an inpatient setting where I undertook the role of Ward Manager.  During this time I became interested in interventions for people with psychosis and commenced a master’s degree in cognitive behavioural interventions for psychosis. 

I joined the University of Chester in 2001 as a lecturer and developed my teaching skills on a number of programmes particularly pre-registration mental health nursing and professional education programmes including mentorship.  In 2007 I moved to the Isle of Man to introduce pre-registration mental health nursing across the island.  I had a wonderful six years on the island but decided to move back to Cheshire and to the University.  I am now Head of Department for Social Work and Interprofessional Education working alongside colleagues within the Department and Faculty leading the interprofessional education agenda.
