Laura Duncan

I have been fortunate to work in a wide variety of settings and roles including Psychiatric Intensive Care Units, Triage Assessment Units and Liaison and Diversion Services. I’m passionate about improving mental health services and care, which is why I moved into education; to support the nurses and healthcare professionals of the future.

I teach primarily on the Pre-Registration Nursing programmes and I am the Programme Lead for Mental Health Nursing at the Wheeler site.

My key areas of interest for research are:

  • Student perceptions of support
  • Stigma and Discrimination of individuals with a diagnosis of Personality Disorder
  • Experiences of the LGBT community within Mental Health Services
  • Experiences of individuals with mental health issues within the Criminal Justice System

I am currently writing a book titled ‘Thriving in Mental Health Nursing’ expected to be published in May 2025
