Lauren Coombs

Lauren teaches on the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies and provides clinical supervision to students on the course.

Lauren completed a degree in Psychology at the University of Manchester. After graduating she worked as a Primary Care Mental Health Worker in the NHS for several years. She went on to develop skills in research working as a Research and Effectiveness Officer in an NHS Research and Development Department and as a Clinical Studies Officer for the Mental Health Research Network. Lauren trained as a High Intensity Therapist at the University of Chester and worked in the NHS as a CBT Therapist for 9 years. She has extensive teaching experience having previously been employed as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Manchester on the MSc Advanced Practice Interventions for Mental Health (APIMH) providing training to Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners. She has a particular interest in clinical supervision and has also delivered supervisor training for the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme. Lauren has full accreditation as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with the British Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapies (BABCP). She was previously the Treasurer for the Manchester branch of the BABCP and involved in event organisation and administration. ​ Lauren is the Director of her own company Lauren Coombs CBT LTD.  Her company provides, therapy, supervision and training.

Lauren is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She teaches part-time on the Postgraduate Diploma in CBT: High Intensity Training. She is the Module Leader for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy: Complex Presentations (PS7204). She contributes to teaching and marking on other modules including Science, Theory and Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy: Depression and Anxiety Disorders (PS7201), and Supervised Clinical Practice: Depression and Anxiety (PS7208). She also provides clinical supervision to students on the course.

Lauren worked as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist in the NHS and her research interests include clinical and clinical case management supervision.  Her MSc thesis examined CBT therapists’ attitudes towards clinical case management supervision.
