I joined the University of Chester in January 2020. Previously I worked in statutory children and families social work; on a Child Protection Assessment team and as a senior social worker in Fostering services for 10 years. I have lived and worked in Japan, Australia and Romania in both teaching and practice roles for 11 years.

I completed the JET programme in Japan and stayed for 5 years teaching and completing my MA Social Anthropology of Japan; specific focus on the Japanese Mafia (Yakuza), their public symbolism and the sex industry.

I earned my CELTA in Barcelona via Cambridge University and was employed by various universities in Tokyo and Monash University in Melbourne teaching EAP to international students. I have also taught EAP in the UK; Oxford Brookes University and Liverpool University.

I worked in Târnăveni Psychiatric hospital in Transylvania, Romania as a Psychologist Assistant (volunteer) for ‘CeauÈ™escu’s children’ providing therapeutic activities to adult in-patients with high-risk behaviours.

I am interested in organised crime and its connection to child sexual exploitation and child criminal exploitation both nationally and internationally. I am specifically interested in the following:

  • Trafficking of children within the UK for the purpose of sexual exploitation 
  • Teaching in partnership with students
  • Interprofessional & Interdisciplinary Education; specifically, criminology and anthropology
  • Ethnography and Co-Production as research methods

Previous PGR study includes the following:

  • The Trafficking of Looked After British Children within the UK for the Purpose of Sexual Exploitation.
  • An Exploration into Public Symbolism of the Yakuza (Japanese mafia), particularly Irezumi (a style of tattoo).
