An experienced nurse, academic, and educationalist; Mike became interested in developing leadership skills early in a healthcare student’s journey through working alongside strategic health authority colleagues to develop the Student Quality Ambassadors (SQA) programme, now implemented across nine NW Universities.

Whilst Head of the Acute Care Department, his interest in technology and its use in supporting students led to developing the first digital non-medical prescribing programmes in 2004, followed by creation of online practice assessment and placement evaluation software in 20013.  The latter has led to his current appointment as Director of the Practice Assessment and Evaluation Service, where his research interests remain focused.

Having deployed twice Afghanistan, and more recently to Kenya; Mike’s role as a Lt Col in the Army Reserve, keeps him fully grounded in acute clinical practice, and sustains a continued interest in Leadership and Coaching.
