Van Nguyen

Van learnt a PhD in International Hospitality Management from Oxford Brookes University in 2022. Her current research interests are in environmental sustainability in hospitality and tourism, pro-environmental behaviour, technological aspect of sustainability in hospitality, and service quality, productivity benchmark in FB sector. She supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research.

Previous academic experience includes teaching at Oxford Brookes University’s Oxford School of Hospitality Management, Munich University of Applied Sciences’ Tourism Department, Hoa Sen University Vietnam’s Tourism and Hospitality Department, International University Vietnam’s Business School and Lincoln University New Zealand’s Faculty of Environment, Society and Design.

Van is also a highly motivated and experienced consultant in sustainable tourism and hospitality, environmental benchmarking and market research as well as being able to deliver strategic and actionable plans. She started her career in tourism, hospitality, and the consultancy industry as a hotel business development manager for the Kiwi Connection New Zealand for a year. She then became a tourism economic analyst for Statistics New Zealand and the Ministry of Tourism New Zealand for two years.

Later she became a client service team leader and project manager in the multi-national market research consultancy, the Nielsen Company for three years. Her current consultancy project is “measuring the labour, capital and operation productivity levels in the Food and Beverage sector in Vietnam” for The Restaurants Association of Vietnam (RAV). She is currently on the Board of Advisors of the RAV.

  • Environmental sustainability: Pro-environmental behaviour in hospitality workplace; Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based automation in hospitality; Sustainability reporting, policies, and strategies; Cross-cultural communication in sustainability; Stakeholder engagement in sustainability
  • Productivity: Measurement and benchmarking
  • Service experience: Customer experience and satisfaction; Employee experience and satisfaction
