Dr Sufian Fannoun

Sufian is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for MSc Programme and Project Management. He has nineteen years of experience in teaching, developing, and managing projects at the higher education sector. He has hands-on experience as Senior lecturer, Researcher, Team Leader and Project Manager.

Sufian joined the University of Chester in 2016. Before that, he worked as a university lecturer and project manager for 14 years in different academic and intellectual places in the world. Sufian also worked as university vice chancellor assistant for planning and projects where he succeeded in fundraising and managing several projects with a total budget of $500,000. These projects were in the fields of construction, capacity building, renewable energy, internationalisation, and students’ mobility. Funding bodies were the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), European Commission TEMPUS and ERASMUS programmes, and German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Sufian holds PhD, MSc and BSc 1st class honours qualifications. He is an active researcher and reviewer for SAGE Management Learning Journal. He received number of prestigious awards such as the British Council PhD award, the University of Westminster MSc award, BSc honours’ graduate award, and the excellence award for best dedicated staff. In 2009, Sufian was selected among a small group representing the international emerging scholars honoured by the Rt Hon Mr Boris Johnson the mayor of London.

Sufian has both practical and academic experience in Programme and Project management including Agile, Lean, Scrum, XP, Six Sigma and other PM methodologies. He has solid leadership skills and demonstrated experience in planning, designing and building sophisticated digital solutions and projects.

Sufian is an expert in Bologna Process and internationalisation of academic programmes, worked three years in a joint international project between higher education institutions from UK, EU and the Middle East. The project was funded by the European Commission EACEA Tempus Programme.

Sufian has held positions in a number of higher education committees such as strategic planning, quality assurance, and academic programme development committees. He successfully designed and implemented undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the field s of Information Technology, Engineering, and Project Management. He has taught various modules to different levels of undergraduate and postgraduate students, with various backgrounds and culture. Sufian has successfully supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.

Sufian is supervising PhD thesis and happy to accept PhD students in topics that fall within his research remit at the University of Chester.
