Things to do in Shrewsbury for £10 or less!

Is this your first visit to Shrewsbury? Maybe you’ve been here before but haven’t had the chance to explore. Well, here’s a quick list of the main things you can do in Shrewsbury (in my humble opinion) for £10 or less!

Firstly, if you love hot chocolate (like me), I can highly recommend Hotel Chocolat. It’s right next to the Darwin Centre and it has some of the best hot chocolate I’ve had in a long time. They have many options – salted caramel being my favourite – and usually a special flavour to match the season. If you aren’t the biggest fan of hot chocolate, they sell a selection of chocolates, so whether you like soft centres, milk chocolate or dark chocolate, you’re bound to find something you like. They also sell coffee and ice cream.

Maybe chocolate isn’t your thing, and you prefer to sit and enjoy a coffee. Why not combine your love of coffee with your love of cats? The Paws Café in Shrewsbury is Shropshire’s first cat café. It’s just a two-minute walk away from the Darwin Centre and is filled with beautiful (and cuddly) cats. If you love these furry friends like I do, you’ll definitely want to visit this unique venue.

When it comes to food, there are lots of options, from classic takeaways like Domino’s and KFC, to the best place of all, Wetherspoons. We’re fortunate enough to have not just one but two Wetherspoons right next to each other. So, if you get bored in one, you can always pop next door to the other, it’s truly an incredible phenomenon.

We also have Planet Doughnut just around the corner and Roly’s Fudge (bonus points if you can guess what they sell!) for those with a sweet tooth. There are more restaurants practically on every corner, such as Hickory’s and Beefy Boys – they’ll set you back more than £10, but they’re great to visit once in a while! 

The town has lots of independent shops too. Pomona Grocery sells fresh fruit and veg, and if you’re in the mood for something slightly healthier, Shrewsbury Market is filled with independent and family-run businesses where you can find almost anything you could wish for.

If it’s fresh air you’re after and beautiful scenery, take a walk through The Quarry Park. Be sure to visit the Dingle Garden whilst you’re there – it’s a very pretty botanical park with some cool statues and ducks.

Shrewsbury is the birthplace of Charles Darwin – there’s a lovely little statue of him right outside the town library, which is based in a medieval building right across from the castle.

I would definitely recommend trying all of these places – you will not regret it!
