Support

One of the RKEI’s core aims is to help enhance research projects and research careers both at Chester and with our partners. To this end, the RKEI runs a series of dedicated research support activities each year.

‘Breaking Boundaries’ Small Funding Awards

The ‘Breaking Boundaries’ scheme provides staff and postgraduate students with financial support for new and emerging projects. The fund is designed to support new research projects that will enhance the profile of the Culture and Society RKEI, while also supporting the University’s Citizen Student strategy. Projects should be interdisciplinary and must include an aspect of community engagement. It is hoped that these preliminary awards will form the foundations for future external funding bids. We are looking for creative and inspiring projects, but are very open to the form that these could take. The available funds might help to support public events, exhibition costs, brochure printing, venue hire, digital resources, screenings or network meetings amongst others. Full application details are available to members online (university credentials required).

Academic Training Workshops

Our annual programme of training workshops brings researchers from different disciplines into conversation to share experiences and models of success. Recent events in our Research Conversations programme have included:

  • ‘The Social Media Academic’
  • ‘Get Funded: 5 Tips for Success’
  • ‘On Time and On Budget: Organising a Successful Academic Conference’
  • ‘Publishing in Edited Volumes’

Writing Café

We run our writing café monthly on campus, which is open to all staff and students. This is a great opportunity for our researchers to gather together to get an important chunk of writing completed. Simply bring along a laptop and let the words flow.
