Course Summary

Gain an MSc in Psychiatry part time in one of the following specialties: Neurodevelopmental disorders, Child and Adolescent mental health, and Neuropsychiatry. 

All UK home students must be registered health care professionals working with individual’s experiencing mental health issues. This can involve inpatient or community treatment settings in NHS or social care settings. Home students accessing the MSc Psychiatry must work in mental health in order to meet the course requirements. 

This course is a unique blend of academic learning and subspecialty clinical training. Face-to-face sessions have been designed to accommodate busy professional working commitments (one afternoon session per week). Occasional evening sessions and weekends maybe required. The teaching team are all experienced psychiatric clinicians or mental health researchers. Attendance will be one afternoon per week face to face (allow additional time to study and prepare assessments)

What you’llStudy

The MSc has three distinct parts to gain 180 Master’s-level credits. There are two clinical research modules: Critical Appraisal and Developing a Research Proposal. Clinical modules: these focus on the application of current knowledge. You will develop a detailed knowledge to the diagnosis and management of mental health conditions.

All students complete a 12,000-word thesis (dissertation). You will be supervised jointly by an experienced clinician and an academic.

How you'll Learn

Clinical and academic taught module content will be delivered over one afternoon per week. As an adult learner and registered mental health professional, you will need to undertake private study. All students will have an identified academic and clinical supervisor on this MSc. For the clinical modules, you will always be working towards evidence-based practice that underpins clinical decisions. 

 

Entry Requirements

2:2 honours degree

UK/EU students must primarily work in a mental health setting, have a minimum 2:2 honours degree classification in a health-related subject, and must be a registered healthcare professional.  

This course is not available to international students.

Your course will involve additional costs not covered by your tuition fees. This may include books, printing, photocopying, educational stationery and related materials, specialist clothing, travel to placements, optional field trips and software. Compulsory field trips are covered by your tuition fees.
