Work Based Learning

Work-based and placement learning collaborations between students and organisations across the UK, delivered through our Work Based Learning suite of modules.

Our flagship Enhancing Your Employability through Work Based Learning module has been running successfully in various forms for over 25 years at the University of Chester. At its core is the five-week placement that is undertaken during the second year of study. We are currently developing this offer to include remote working through virtual placements and alternative opportunities for skills analysis, development and career planning.

Why Work Based Learning?

The Graduate Market in 2019 (High Fliers) report reveals that over a third of recruiters taking part in the research advised that graduates ‘who have had no previous work experience at all are unlikely to be successful during the selection process for their graduate programmes'.

Also, recruiters consistently report that in addition to the specific technical skills and experience required for their sector, they are keen to recruit people who can demonstrate a range of ‘soft’ or ‘transferable’ skills, such as communication, adaptability, problem-solving, teamworking and time management.

Our aim is for Work Based Learning to address the needs of both students and employers.
